Energizers
The base of an energizer is depend in the numbers of joules to know its performance, so the power of the electric shock.
For an electric fence, four things are important to know:
The density of vegetation. Dense vegetation will have the effect of reducing the power of the shock and power lost.
The length of the fence and quantity of wire in heights. Longer is your fence and quantity of wire you have, the power will decrease.
Animal type
Type of energy applied
It must be kept in mind that a small shock does not have the same influence as a big shock, you will remember it.
Exemple :
A 0.25J energizer over a distance of 500 meters, without vegetation, will work very well.
A 2J energizer for a 2 km fence with normal vegetation will do the work, but if the vegetation increases, the power will decrease.
A 5J energizer for a 2 km fence with abundant vegetation will be more suitable than the previous energizer.
Grounding
More than 80% of the problems of an electric fence is coming from a poor ground system. It is important to have a good ground system installed in a wet area. It could be nice to wet the area in dry weather condition.
Installation :
Install at least 2, 1m ground rods in the soil and making sure to have a distance of two meters between them.
Connect the ground rods together, ideally in the ground.
Connect the connection to the energizer.
Water the soil during installation and when the weather is dry.
Conductivity
3 important elements: visibility, conductor’s selection and resistance to corrosion.
You have to select wire according to your needs, but always keep in mind the three important elements that will save you time, money, but also several problems.
Use copper or aluminum for long distance to improve energy in your fence.
Use stainless, wire, ribbon or rope for shorter distances.
Do you know?
Connections greatly reduce the conductivity of your fence. Make sure your installation does not have a faulty connection!
